And the Word of the Lord came to Moses...
And the Word of the Lord came to Elijah...
And the Word of the Lord came to Solomon...
And the Word of the Lord came to Noah...
Notice how often that phrase appears in the Bible. Why haven't we paid more attention to it?
Our personal "bible" would read more like this: And Sue sought frantically for the word of the Lord... And Lea Ann tried in vain to hear the word of the Lord...
God's work ALWAYS starts with God. Anything God intends to do, He initiates. But too often we race around performing Christian-looking duties, trying to get God to bless them when they were never His idea to begin with.
.Throughout the Scriptures, whenever God planned to do something great, He took the initiative to speak into the life of the person He chose to use. He didn't need their help, just as a mother does not need the "help" of her 3-year-old to cook supper. But she lets the child help, just as God lets us help so that we get the blessing and the experience of a deeper knowledge of Him.
.
Are you wearing yourself out "working for God?" Maybe the reason is because the Word of the Lord never came. Maybe it was your idea of what God must surely want. Maybe you're doing it by yourself. That would wear anyone out.
.
Isn't it a great thought that you can stop all that trying?
.
God is much more interested in what you ARE than in what you DO. When He's ready for you, He'll let you know.
.
In the meantime, learn to rest in Him and tune your ear to His every whisper. Purify your heart, strengthen your faith, and find Him in worship.
.
When the Word of the Lord does come, you won't want to miss it.
